Upcoming changes to the connection of the Bridge (July 2025)

In the interest of continuous improvement, an update will be deployed to the Bridges starting July 7, 2025. The main consequence of this update will be to maintain a permanent connection between a Bridge and the Wattsense servers. It will then be possible to push a configuration without activating data reception. The other changes that this update brings are described in this article.

 

Bridge with Ethernet connection + SIM card (*)

Function Now After the changes

Redirection to a gateway (MQTT, Modbus, BACnet)
  • The gateway is on a local IP network : data go through ethernet
  • The gateway is on a remote IP server : cellular when data uplink is activated, ethernet otherwise

Access to the Box from the Wattsense servers
  • If the Wattsense servers can be reached :  permanent connection
  • Otherwise : no permanent connection, one-off connection with the Box through text messages

  • Data uplink enabled : Send all events
Time interval between two readings
  • 60s minimum between two readings for properties configured as LOCAL whatever the gateway (till the gateway server can be reached through the internet connection)
  • 600s minimum for properties configured as REMOTE

  • ONLINE but not sending data : Yellow
  • Data uplink enabled : Green

Bridge without Ethernet connection (only SIM card)

Redirection to a gateway (MQTT, Modbus, BACnet) The data are redirected only when the data uplink is activated Not supported (no redirection)

The redirection to a gateway requires an ethernet connection		 no changes

  • OFFLINE : Red
  • Data uplink enabled : ONLINE - Green
  • ONLINE : Yellow
  • Data uplink enabled : ONLINE - Green
  • OFFLINE if the cellular signal strength is not strong enough  : RED

 

(*) if the cellular connection is not strong enough to communicate with the Wattsense servers (meaning that the box can't get an IP address through the cellular connection), the ethernet connection, when available, is used. When both are available, the cellular connection will have the priority.

 

Tower with Ethernet connection + SIM card
