This article explains how to enable two-factor authentication on the Wattsense console.
Two-factor authentication is a method that allows access to the console only after presenting two separate identity sources. This greatly improves security.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication
This option is available in your user profile menu:
By default, two-step authentication is disabled. Click the Enable two-factor authentication button in the Security tab.
You will then have the choice of which method to use:
- Dedicated application (e.g., 2FA Authenticator (2FAS), Google Authenticator, etc.)
- SMS
Two-factor authentication via application
Scan the QR code that appears and then click on the associated link in your smartphone's QR code app. This will create an entry in your authentication app (The Building API).
Enter the one-time code provided by the authentication app.
On the next page, a recovery code will be displayed. This will be useful in case you lose your phone or change your phone number, for example. Copy this code and store it in a safe place.
| You will no longer be able to access this code once this window is closed, so we suggest copying this code and keeping it in a safe place. |
Two-factor authentication via SMS
In this menu, enter your country and phone number.
An SMS will be sent to the number provided. The sender is TheBuilding.
123456 is your verification code for Wattsense Console.
Please use this code to verify your identity.Enter this code on the page:
The next windows displays a recovery code (in the same ways as in the previous method).
Removing the Two-Factor Authentication Option
On the security page, you can check wether the two-factor authentication is enabled or not.
If you want to remove this option, click on the Disable button.
Logging into the console with two-factor authentication
If two-factor authentication is enabled, an additional window opens after the login/password screen. Enter the code provided either by the authentication app or by the SMS message received (depending on the method selected previously).
