This article is about the communication status of devices in the console.
In the Console Configuration Tab (or the Live Data tab), you can view the connection status icon for each device line. This provides information on whether communication is established between the Box and the device, as well as the signal quality, if applicable.
Wireless equiments (LoRaWAN protocol)
The icon displayed depends on the communication stage between the Wattsense box and the sensor. The following diagram illustrates the process:
| For Bridges: Only (-) is displayed. |
| New equipment added | |
| Configuration changed : at least one key has been changed (DevEUI, AppEUI or AppKey) | |
| Pairing process is successful (5002 event in the log page) | |
| At least 1 data point received (system or not) | |
| No data received in the last 12h |
You can hover over the status buttons to view detailed information about the last communication.
For example:
Signal Quality
A signal quality icon appears next to the connection status:
Global signal quality
This indicator is one of the following :
- Good signal
- Medium signal
- Poor signal
This criterion can only be calculated if the following 3 properties are selected for the device:
- Signal Noice Ratio (SNR)
- Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI)
- Spreading Factor (SF)
The following diagram shows how the signal quality is determined :
Example :
|
If a sensor sends the values to the Box : (RSSI = -122 SNR = 7 SF = 10) Signal quality is medium, we compare the two results (RSSI and SNR) and we display the worst of the two |
If a sensor sends the values to the Box : (RSSI = -112 SNR = 7 SF = 10) Both indicators are in the green area, the signal is good. |
Other properties
If SNR RSSI and SF are not all selected, we display one of them instead of the global quality signal. For example :
Wired Devices
For other protocols (Modbus, KNX, LPB, BACnet, etc.), the approach is slightly different: data is transmitted from the device to the Box following a request from the latter.
As long as no requests have been sent to the device, the connection status is unknown (-).
As soon as data is exchanged between the device and the Box, the status can be OK or NOK, depending on whether the number of expected data points matches the requests. A statistical indicator is calculated to indicate whether the connection is considered OK: if, within one hour, 70% of the requested data points are received, the status is OK.
| For Bridges : Only (-) is displayed. |
